Established in 2007 Earthchild Project is a Cape Town based non-profit organization working with children in schools in Khayelitsha and Lavender Hill. They work within the school curriculum providing yoga, mindfulness and healthy living classes to promote holistic education, driven by the belief that learning and transformation occurs only when we are connected to ourselves, others and our environment. For many children living in the townships this a much needed nurturing, safe and supportive space.

More than six million girls in South Africa miss a week of school each month due to lacking sanitary towels and tampons. This equates to almost three months per year and loss of education often resulting in these girls dropping out of school completely. Resolving this issue can lead to better school attendance, empowerment and joy for this special time in each girls life.
The Shala has teamed up with the Earthchild Project to make a difference in some of these girls lives. The #girlchild campaign provides girls from the Earthchild project with sustainable sanitary wear and includes an educational component covering all areas of body care, sex education and self-worth.
Our 2018, 2019 and 2020 campaigns where hugely successful and we would like to thank the community for their generous support in helping us reach our targets. This was done through various events and generous contributions from people in their private capacity. We have managed to distribute to over 400 girls from Earthchild Projects young girls clubs.
